Corrected supplemental research: Reposition CognitiveLiberties.com: publish, discover, contest and improve

Research edition · October 11, 2026 · 982 source words

Rewritten replacement for uploaded document: Link-First Discovery Network Plan.md. This document does not claim to preserve the language or total length of the original upload; it preserves the topic and relevant independently supported findings while removing the incorrect privacy-first thesis and unsupported assertions. Original uploaded text remains available separately in the prior expanded archive.

Editorial position and scope

Proposed mission: Cognitive liberty means that people can think and inquire freely, seek and receive information, voluntarily share their views and evidence, encounter disagreement, and challenge opaque decisions that prevent lawful information from being found. Access does not equal endorsement: freedom to inspect a claim is compatible with labeling its evidence weak, correcting falsehoods, and applying proportionate lawful restrictions. Individual privacy remains an option and a safeguard, not the central objective or a demand that people stop sharing with knowledge systems.

Status of this document: Independent desk research as of October 11, 2026. It uses public sources and the existing public website. It is not an internal site audit, a measured search-ranking experiment, an inspection of proprietary AI training datasets, or legal advice. Numbered [S##] citations resolve to SOURCES.md.

Corrections to the uploaded study

The uploaded implementation plan treated confidentiality and data minimization as the main outcome even though the user’s priority is voluntary public contribution and viewpoint access. It also assumed site inventory details without repeatable evidence. The replacement begins with expression and discoverability outcomes.

Newly verified public evidence

Revised interpretation centered on expression and discovery

The site is already a capable nucleus for a public discovery initiative: a real Resource Navigator, network, organizations directory and evidence ledger exist. The first investment should be editorial reframing, annotated cross-source trails and an accountability audit—not a new privacy-first AI agent.

First redefine the primary visitor journeys: “I want to research a controversial question”; “I want to share my opinion or evidence”; “I want to find opposing perspectives”; “I want to challenge a missing or misrepresented source.” Each should link to available sources on the first page.

Treat privacy as a selectable feature and disclosure choice. Remove claims that non-retention automatically guarantees freedom; equally, do not require public exposure as a condition of participation.

Editorial governance is the hard part. No automated ingestion without curation; author rights, factual standards, alternate arguments, corrections and conflict labels are mandatory. Opposition must be represented accurately without forcing equal prominence.

The pilot should report both benefits and failures: if users discover more independent sources but are misled by low-quality material, the design needs changes; if only already-connected publishers benefit, expand contributor representation.

Implementation continuity

The realistic sequence is mission correction → live site inventory → source relationships → public participation → auditable discovery benchmark → optional federation → optional agent interface. Recruitment should be based on relevant research, not compulsory link trading. A 365-day pilot measures successful independent source discovery, fair representation, correction time and multilingual/contributor participation. Confidentiality options remain available to participants but are not primary performance objectives. [S18][S19][S20]

Practical application and build instructions

  1. Weeks 1–4: mission rewrite, public corrections to older research and live navigation inventory.
  2. Months 2–3: three diverse source trails, submission and correction workflows, mobile usability benchmark.
  3. Months 4–6: partner federation trial and reproducible AI viewpoint coverage audit.
  4. Months 7–12: optional source-first agent prototype, independent evaluation and open publication of results.

Research questions and ways the thesis could fail

What concrete site, editorial and software changes would make positive cognitive liberty the central public experience over the next 365 days?

Unresolved: This is a proposed implementation program, not measured site performance. No site analytics, internal repository, model training logs or production tests were available for this work.
